The school only sends things to my husband or wife. How do I see them too?
Ask the school office, and each teacher or activity that emails you, to add your address as well, so you get the original and not a forward. Until they do, have your spouse forward each school email to you the same day, or set up an automatic forward for the school's senders.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Ask to be added, by name. Email the school office, each teacher, and each activity or daycare that sends mail. Give the child's name and your address, and ask whether a second parent can be on the list. If the school uses an app or a portal, ask whether you can have your own login.
- Keep asking until the first real email lands. Ask a teacher or the office to tell you when you are on the list, or watch for the first message. Check your spam folder once.
- Until then, forward the same day. Agree a rule with your spouse: any school email that asks for something gets forwarded to you the day it arrives, with the child's name in the subject if it is not there.
- Or forward automatically, for the school's senders only. In Gmail, Google's help says, "We forward all new messages to the account, except for spam." It also says, "To forward messages that match a specific criteria, you can create a filter." Make the filter for the school's senders only, not the whole inbox. If your spouse uses another email program, look in its settings for forwarding.
- Write the task, not the email, and say who has it. "Maya: wear red, Friday. Your spouse has it." So the form is not signed twice or not at all.
- Once a week, ask what you did not see. Two minutes: "What came in this week that I haven't seen?" A forward rule can miss one; a spoken check catches it.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, keeps that one list. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. Each parent can connect their own Gmail, and what Daywell finds goes on the shared list. Invite a partner and you both see the same list. A partner who isn't on Daywell can forward school emails to your Daywell address. Add their address first, or say yes the first time one arrives. Daywell reads new school email when you open the app, and the iPhone and Android apps usually read again each morning before your reminder.
Questions parents ask
The school's app only has one login. Can Daywell read it?
No, but it reads the emails they send.
It doesn't sign in to school portals or apps. It reads the emails they send.
My spouse doesn't use Daywell. Can they forward school emails to my Daywell address?
Yes, after you add or approve their address.
A partner who isn't on Daywell can forward school emails to your Daywell address. Add their address first, or say yes the first time one arrives.
Can we both connect our own Gmail?
Yes. What each finds goes on the shared list.
Each parent can connect their own Gmail, and what Daywell finds goes on the shared list.
Will I see the same email twice?
No, but two emails on one event can show twice.
No. When the same email arrives more than once, or the exact same item shows up again, Daywell keeps one. Two different emails about the same event can still show as two items.
Is it safe for my spouse to connect their Gmail?
It's read-only, so it can't change anything.
Gmail access is read-only. Daywell can't send, delete or change anything. To decide which emails matter, Daywell uses only the sender and subject line. Only emails about school, daycare or activities are read in full.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes, just forward them.
Yes. From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It starts with who it's from and the subject.
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
Start on the web.
Daywell is on the web. Start at getdaywell.com. It reads your school and activity email and tells you what your kids need ready.
