How do I keep track of all the emails from my kid's school?
Gather every school email in one place, then once a week pull out only the lines that ask you to do or bring something. Put those on the calendar your family already checks, and let the rest of each newsletter wait.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- List every sender. The school office, each teacher, the PTA, the district, after-school programs, and any school or daycare app that emails you, such as ParentSquare, Remind, or Brightwheel's Daily Report.
- Send them all to one label. In Gmail, make a filter that puts mail from those senders under one label, like "School". Now nothing hides between work emails.
- Pick one weekly time to skim. Sunday evening works for a lot of parents. Look only for dates and for anything your child has to wear, bring, sign or pay for.
- Write down the task, not the email. "Wear red, Friday" and "Field trip form, due Wednesday" are easier to act on than a forwarded newsletter.
- Put it where the family looks. The shared calendar, the fridge, or a group text with your partner. One list both of you can see beats two people each holding half of it.
- Catch the strays. Paper flyers from the backpack never reach your inbox, and class app posts and team schedules may not either. Snap a photo or save the link when they turn up, and add them in your weekly skim.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, does the weekly skim for you. It checks who each email is from and its subject to find the school ones, then reads only those and lists what to prepare, like "Maya: wear red, Friday". On the iPhone and Android apps, you get one morning reminder at the time you pick. Invite your partner and you both see the same list.
Questions parents ask
Our school or daycare uses ParentSquare, Remind or Brightwheel. Does that work?
Yes, and each one works a little differently. For ParentSquare and Remind, turn on email in the app's notification settings; Daywell knows them as school senders and reads those emails. Brightwheel messages arrive in the Brightwheel app, and urgent alerts can also come by text, so take a screenshot of the message, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web.
Our school uses ClassDojo. How do I get its posts into Daywell?
If you use only the ClassDojo website, ClassDojo sends its notifications by email. With the ClassDojo app installed, it sends them to your phone as push notifications instead; it doesn't send both. For a post that matters, take a screenshot, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web, and Daywell lists what it asks for.
I use Outlook, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes. You can forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address. The first time you forward from a new address, Daywell asks you to confirm it's yours; after that, forward again and Daywell reads it.
How do I add a paper flyer or a PDF?
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for. On iPhone, Android and the web, Daywell also reads PDFs and pictures attached to school emails.
Our sports team uses TeamSnap or GameChanger. How do games show up?
Connect the team's calendar link in Daywell, and the team's schedule comes in alongside the school items. On GameChanger, a parent or player account's link includes practices as well as games; a team follower's link has games only.
The same email reached me twice. Will I see it twice?
No. When the same email arrives more than once, or the exact same item shows up again, Daywell keeps one. Two different emails about the same event can still show as two items.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
