How do I keep up with all the ParentSquare messages from my kid's school?
Switch ParentSquare from instant notifications to the daily digest, so the day's posts arrive together, usually in the evening. Urgent alerts still come right away, and direct messages have their own setting, so the digest doesn't hold them. Then skim that one digest for anything your child has to wear, bring, sign or pay for.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Open your notification settings. In the ParentSquare app, tap the menu (the three lines at the top left), then your account's Notification Settings. On the web, click your name, then My Account, then Notification Settings. Menus can differ a little from school to school.
- Choose Digest instead of Instant. Digest gathers the day's non-urgent posts into one notification, usually in the evening. Instant sends every post as it happens, which adds up fast with more than one child.
- Know what still comes right away. Urgent alerts, which include emergencies, still go straight to your email and phone even with Digest on, and they can't be turned off. Direct messages have their own setting (email, app or text), so Digest doesn't hold them back.
- Keep email turned on for posts. Posts have separate settings for Email and for Mobile (App/Text), so your phone can be on Digest while email stays on. Email is easy to search later and easy to forward.
- Skim the digest once. Look only for dates and for things to do or bring. Write the task, not the post: "Library book, Tuesday".
- Put it where the family looks. The shared calendar, the fridge, or a note your partner also sees.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, knows ParentSquare as a school sender. It checks who each email is from and its subject to find the school ones, then reads only those and lists what to prepare, like "Maya: library book, Tuesday". On the iPhone and Android apps, you get one morning reminder at the time you pick.
Questions parents ask
Does Daywell read the ParentSquare app itself?
No. Daywell reads ParentSquare posts that arrive by email, so keep email turned on for posts in your ParentSquare settings.
I use Daywell. Should ParentSquare email be set to Instant or Digest?
Instant. Under Posts, set Email to Instant for each school, and ParentSquare emails each post on its own for Daywell to read. Your phone can stay on Digest, because email and mobile have separate settings.
Our ParentSquare emails go to a different inbox. What do I do?
Forward them to your Daywell address. The first time you forward from a new address, Daywell asks you to confirm it's yours; after that, forward again and Daywell reads it.
A post had a flyer or a sign-up I need to remember. How do I add it?
Take a screenshot of the post or save the flyer, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell lists what it asks for.
Will Digest make me miss something urgent?
Urgent alerts still arrive right away with Digest on, and direct messages follow their own setting, not Digest. Settings can vary by district, so check yours once after switching.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
