How do I keep up with field trip permission slips?
Treat a field trip as several tasks, not one: the signed slip, any money, anything to wear or pack, and the date, each with its own deadline. Write each as its own task with the day it is due, and sign the slip the day it arrives.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Send them all to one label. In Gmail, make a filter for your school, daycare and activity senders and have it label them "School". Choose Skip the Inbox (Archive it) only if you'll open that label every day.
- Split the trip into its parts. When a field trip notice arrives, look for four things: the slip to sign, any money, anything the child has to wear or pack, and the day. If the notice asks for a chaperone or a volunteer, that is a fifth.
- Write one task per part. "Maya: trip slip, sign by Wednesday", "Maya: trip money, Friday", "Maya: closed shoes, trip day". Each has a child and a day, so none hides inside "field trip".
- Sign the slip the day it arrives. A slip is a two-minute job that takes ten minutes to find again. If it is a paper note, sign it and put it straight into the backpack; if it is a form to fill in, do it before you close the message.
- Keep a copy. Take a photo of the signed slip before it leaves your hands. If the form is lost, you have the answer you gave.
- Add the trip day to your calendar. Put the trip day on your calendar, with the time the class leaves and gets back if the notice gives them. Set one reminder the evening before to check the bag.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, does that reading and list-making for you. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. One list of what's coming up, which child it's for, and what to bring, sign or pay. On the iPhone and Android apps, one quiet reminder comes each morning, at a time you pick. Invite a partner and you both see the same list.
Questions parents ask
The slip is a paper note in my child's bag. How do I add it?
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for.
Will Daywell remind me?
Yes, on the iPhone and Android apps: one quiet reminder each morning, at a time you pick.
The same trip email reached me twice. Will I see it twice?
No. When the same email arrives more than once, or the exact same item shows up again, Daywell keeps one. Two different emails about the same event can still show as two items.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes. From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
It's in invite-only early access. Join the waitlist on getdaywell.com and we'll send one email when your spot opens. It's free while in early access.
