How do I keep track of school forms that are due?
Treat school forms as a short list with one line per form per child: what it is, who signs, the day it is due and how it goes back to school. Do the quick ones the day they arrive and photograph each one before it leaves your hands.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Send them all to one label. In Gmail, make a filter for your school, daycare and activity senders and have it label them "School". Choose Skip the Inbox (Archive it) only if you'll open that label every day.
- Gather the stack once. Look through the backpack, the folder and the School label for anything with a due date. Open each one and decide in a minute whether it is a quick one or a long one.
- Make one line per form per child. What it is, who has to sign, the day it is due, and how it goes back (in the backpack, by email, through a link). "Maya: emergency contact form, I sign, Friday, backpack". Write all four or the line is not done.
- Do the quick ones the day they arrive. A signature takes a minute. Put them where they will leave the house, in the backpack or the sent mail.
- Give the long ones a day. A form that needs numbers, dates or a doctor gets its own task with its own earlier day, so it is not discovered on the due date.
- Photograph before it leaves, and check weekly. Take a picture of each signed form. Pick one time a week to cross off what went back and add what arrived.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, does that reading and list-making for you. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. You get one list of what's coming up, which child it's for, and what to bring, sign or pay, like "Maya: field trip form, sign by Wednesday". On the iPhone and Android apps, one quiet reminder comes each morning, at a time you pick. Invite a partner and you both see the same list.
Questions parents ask
My school keeps its forms on a portal. Can Daywell see them?
It doesn't sign in to school portals or apps. It reads the emails they send. For a form on the portal, save it as a PDF or take a screenshot, and add it the way the next answer describes.
The form was a paper copy. How do I add it?
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for.
Will Daywell remind me?
Yes, on the iPhone and Android apps: one quiet reminder each morning, at a time you pick.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes. From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
It's in invite-only early access. Join the waitlist on getdaywell.com and we'll send one email when your spot opens. It's free while in early access.
