How do I keep track of half days and early dismissal?
A half day or early dismissal changes the time, not the day, so it is easy to read past. Write down the date and the pickup time together, tell whoever does pickup, and set one reminder the evening before.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Send them all to one label. In Gmail, make a filter for your school, daycare and activity senders and have it label them "School". Choose Skip the Inbox (Archive it) only if you'll open that label every day.
- Find the time, not just the date. Look in newsletters, short emails, flyers and calendars. Look for the words half day, early dismissal, early release and minimum day, and read for the time that follows.
- Write the date and the time as one task. "Maya: early dismissal, Friday, 12:30" is easier to act on than a forwarded newsletter. Give it the child, the day and the time.
- Say who picks up. Tell whoever does pickup that day, in a message that has the time in it. If your children are at different schools, write one line per school, in case the times differ.
- Check what else changes. If the notice says anything about lunch, aftercare or the bus that day, put it in the same task. If it says nothing, that is the one question worth a message to the teacher or the school office.
- Set one reminder the evening before. A reminder on the morning itself can be too late if the pickup time moves your whole work day. Use your phone's own reminder or calendar and put the time in its title.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, does that reading and list-making for you. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. You get one list of what's coming up, which child it's for, and what to bring, sign or pay, like "Maya: field trip form, sign by Wednesday". On the iPhone and Android apps, one quiet reminder comes each morning, at a time you pick. Invite a partner and you both see the same list.
Questions parents ask
Our school has a calendar link. Can Daywell use it?
Paste a team or school calendar link once, and Daywell keeps those events up to date.
The time was on a paper note from my child's backpack. How do I add it?
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for.
Will Daywell remind me?
Yes, on the iPhone and Android apps: one quiet reminder each morning, at a time you pick.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes. From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
It's in invite-only early access. Join the waitlist on getdaywell.com and we'll send one email when your spot opens. It's free while in early access.
