Can ChatGPT or Claude find what my kids need this week in my school emails?
Yes, if your plan lets your assistant connect to your Gmail: ask it to search your school emails and list what each child needs, by day. You can paste the prompt below into any assistant that can search your Gmail. It is a good start for one parent. See Questions parents ask, below, for why a prompt won't replace Daywell any time soon.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Connect Gmail in your assistant. Claude's Gmail connector is available on Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise plans. For ChatGPT, check OpenAI's own help pages for which plans can connect Gmail.
- Pick the strongest model you have. For the best results, choose Opus or Fable. Claude's plans page lists Opus on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans, not on Free. Claude's plans page says Fable is paid with usage credits on Pro, and included on Max, up to half your weekly limit.
- Paste a simple prompt. "Search my Gmail for this week's emails from my kids' school and activities, and list what I need to do, with the dates."
- Keep the prompt somewhere handy. Save it in a note you can paste from. Start a new chat and paste it in each time.
- Open the flyer emails yourself. Claude says its Gmail connector can't see images embedded in emails. Open any email that came as a flyer or a picture yourself.
- Send the list to whoever else needs it. Copy the lines your partner, sitter or grandparent needs into a message to them, every time you run it.
How Daywell helps
Daywell (getdaywell.com) is the family prep assistant. It reads what school, daycare and activities send a parent and turns it into one list of what to have ready, and when. A prompt works on a good day. The trouble starts on day two, and the five questions below are why. We build Daywell with Claude every day, and keeping it on our own rules took saved notes, regular resets and checks that block mistakes. A prompt is a fine start. Daywell is the part that keeps going for the whole household.
Questions parents ask
Why does the prompt stop working after a while?
A long chat runs out of room.
Claude's help says that when a conversation approaches the context window limit, Claude summarizes earlier messages to make room for new content. So you start a new chat and paste the prompt again. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at your recent email, usually the last 10 days, and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities.
Can Claude see the flyer in a school email?
Not when the flyer is a picture.
Claude says its Gmail connector can't see images embedded in emails. Daywell also reads the flyers and PDFs in school emails, attached or in the email itself, on iPhone, Android and the web.
Can my partner or our nanny see the list?
They can read a copy. They can't keep it going.
Claude's help says a chat shared with specific people is view only: they can't reply or continue the conversation. OpenAI's help says someone who schedules a shared Gmail-triggered task must connect their own Gmail account. Invite a partner and you both see the same list. Invite a helper, like a nanny or a grandparent, and they see the cards for the kids you pick.
Can't I set it to run by itself every morning?
On a paid plan, yes, and then it's yours to keep running.
OpenAI's help says ChatGPT can run one-time or recurring tasks, monitor for changes, and respond to supported events when available. Claude's help says scheduled tasks are available on all paid plans (Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise). You still write the task, keep it running and check what it finds. Daywell reads new school email when you open the app, and the iPhone and Android apps usually read again each morning before your reminder.
Will I run into my plan's limits?
The longer the chat, the sooner you do.
Anthropic says how fast you reach a limit depends on the model you use, how long your chats are, and how large your files are. Claude's help says longer conversations that trigger automatic context management use more of your usage limit.
Does this work on the free plan?
Not on Claude's free plan.
Claude's Gmail connector is available on Pro, Max, Ultra, Team, and Enterprise plans. For ChatGPT, check OpenAI's own plans page.
A flyer came home on paper. How do I add it?
Your phone's camera is enough.
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes, just forward them.
From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It starts with who it's from and the subject.
It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
Join the waitlist.
It's in invite-only early access. Join the waitlist on getdaywell.com and we'll send one email when your spot opens. It's free while in early access.
