What are the best AI assistants for busy parents?
It depends on the job, because "assistant" covers different jobs: a general assistant you ask for help yourself, a household manager you text or talk to, a calendar that fills itself from your email and photos, and a list of what to have ready for school. Pick the job that keeps going wrong for you, try one product for it, and leave the rest of your setup alone. Daywell (getdaywell.com) is the family prep assistant. It reads what school, daycare and activities send a parent and turns it into one list of what to have ready, and when.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Write down what went wrong last month. A missed form, a double-booked afternoon, a school email nobody opened. One line each.
- Match each line to one job. "I need to draft or plan something" is asking an assistant for help. "I want to text the reminders" is a household manager. "Events never reach the calendar" is a calendar that fills itself. "I never see what the school asked for" is a school-email list. The questions below say what each product says it does, job by job.
- Give each job one home. One place for each job. Two places for the same job is how things get missed.
- If it's the school emails, start with a Gmail label. In Gmail, make a filter for your school, daycare and activity senders and have it label them "School". Read that label once a day for the date, the ask and the child. It needs no assistant.
- Check after two weeks. Did a form, a costume or a payment slip through? If a job still goes wrong, try a different product for that job; the rest stays where it is.
How Daywell helps
Daywell (getdaywell.com) is the family prep assistant. It reads what school, daycare and activities send a parent and turns it into one list of what to have ready, and when. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. Not on Gmail? Forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically. One list of what's coming up, which child it's for, and what to bring, sign or pay. On the iPhone and Android apps, one quiet reminder comes each morning, at a time you pick. Invite a partner and you both see the same list. On iPhone, Android and the web.
Questions parents ask
What are the best AI assistants for busy parents?
It depends on which job keeps going wrong. Asking for help with a task, a household manager you text, a calendar that fills from email and photos, and a list of what the school asked for are different jobs. Start with the job. Within each job below the products are in alphabetical order, which is not a ranking.
I want to ask an assistant for help myself. What do the products say they do?
OpenAI says ChatGPT can help with everyday questions and ideas, explaining concepts, searching the web, comparing options or thinking through a decision. Microsoft says Copilot is AI built to help you get things done, and that you can create, brainstorm, learn and solve problems with AI chat that works across your day. Google says Gemini is its AI assistant and can help with writing, planning, brainstorming and more.
I want a household manager I can text. What does it say it does?
Ohai says it is a household manager: you send a text, forward an email or speak a request, and it turns it into plans, reminders and schedules. Ohai says it organizes your family's calendars, tasks and meals in one shared place.
I want events from my emails and photos on a family calendar. What do the products say they do?
Nuet says it is a parent assistant that gathers events from emails, photos and voice, organises your family calendar, and surfaces what you need to know. Sense says it is the AI family calendar that reads your school emails and adds every event, field trip and deadline to a shared family calendar automatically.
I want calendar and list apps, not an assistant.
The family organiser page sorts those by job: family organiser apps for working parents.
Do I need more than one?
Only if you have more than one job to cover. Give each job one home and keep what already works.
How do I stop missing school forms and fees?
Follow the five steps above. The Gmail label in step 4 needs no assistant.
I don't use Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
With any email service, forward school emails to your Daywell address and Daywell reads them.
Which AI does Daywell use?
Daywell uses Anthropic's Claude to read the emails that matter and pull out what to have ready.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
