How do I remember parent-teacher conference sign-ups?
If your school runs conference sign-ups, there are two dates to write down: when sign-up closes and when the conference is. Write both down the day the notice arrives, book your slot the day you read it, and put the booked time where both parents will see it.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Send them all to one label. In Gmail, make a filter for your school, daycare and activity senders and have it label them "School". Choose Skip the Inbox (Archive it) only if you'll open that label every day.
- Open the notice the day it arrives. Look for the link or the sign-up sheet. Open it that day, not later; a link left in the inbox is easy to forget.
- Write two tasks, not one. "Maya: book conference by Thursday" and, once booked, "Maya: conference, Tuesday 4:15". The first is the deadline; the second is the appointment. Each needs a day and a child.
- Book on the spot. If the sign-up is open when you read it, book it then. If you need your partner's calendar first, send one message that day with two or three times that work.
- Save the confirmation. Move the confirmation email or a screenshot of it into your School label, and put the time in the calendar you both use. If you get no confirmation, that is the one thing to check with the teacher.
- Two children, one list. Put both times in one list in time order, and note the walking time between rooms if they differ. If a time clashes, tell the teacher that day.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, does that reading and list-making for you. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. You get one list of what's coming up, which child it's for, and what to bring, sign or pay, like "Maya: field trip form, sign by Wednesday". On the iPhone and Android apps, one quiet reminder comes each morning, at a time you pick. Invite a partner and you both see the same list.
Questions parents ask
The sign-up was a link in a newsletter. What do I do?
Open the link the day the newsletter arrives and book then. If you can't book right away, write down the link and the sign-up deadline as a task.
The conference notice came as a paper note. How do I add it?
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for.
Will Daywell remind me?
Yes, on the iPhone and Android apps: one quiet reminder each morning, at a time you pick.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes. From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
It's in invite-only early access. Join the waitlist on getdaywell.com and we'll send one email when your spot opens. It's free while in early access.
