How do I remember class party and volunteer sign-ups?
A class party or volunteer request is easy to leave for later, and then the day arrives. Sign up or decline the day you read it, write down what you signed up for with the day, the time and what to bring, and look at it the night before.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Decide the day you read it. The hard part is the yes or no. If you want to help, sign up that day, and if you cannot, say no or ignore it on purpose. A request left for later is the one that disappears.
- Write the slot, not the email. "Maya's class party, Friday, 2:00: bring a bag of napkins." A line with the child, the day, the time and what to bring is easier to act on than a forwarded request.
- Add where to go. If the notice says where to check in or who to find, write it with the line. If it says nothing, that is a question for the teacher or the person who sent the request.
- Put it on a calendar both parents can see, with one alert. Set the alert for the evening before, not the morning of: the evening is when you can still buy the napkins. If a partner is going instead of you, say which of you it is.
- Save the confirmation. If you got a confirmation email, file it under one label so it can be found on the day. In Gmail, make a filter for your school, daycare and activity senders and have it label them "School". Choose Skip the Inbox (Archive it) only if you'll open that label every day.
- Look at the list the night before. Two minutes: what does each child have tomorrow, and does anyone need to bring or do something?
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, does that reading and list-making for you. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. You get one list of what's coming up, which child it's for, and what to bring, sign or pay, like "Maya: field trip form, sign by Wednesday". On the iPhone and Android apps, one quiet reminder comes each morning, at a time you pick. Invite a partner and you both see the same list.
Questions parents ask
The sign-up is on a paper sheet. How do I add it?
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for.
I signed up through SignUpGenius. Can I put it on my calendar?
Yes. Anyone who has signed up for a slot can add it to her own calendar: from the Thank You page or the calendar file in the confirmation email, or, with an account, from the Signed Up tab. You don't need an account to add an item to your calendar from the Thank You page or the confirmation email.
Someone else signed up for the same thing. What do I do?
Ask the person who sent the request.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes. From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
It's in invite-only early access. Join the waitlist on getdaywell.com and we'll send one email when your spot opens. It's free while in early access.
