I keep missing things from my child's daycare emails. What can I do?
Daycare news can come in pieces: emails, messages in the daycare's app, a sheet at pick-up, mixed in with photos and nap times. The ones that cost you when you miss them are closures, early pick-ups, supply asks (diapers, wipes, spare clothes) and forms. Pull those out the day they arrive and put them where you and your partner will both see them.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Find out how your daycare sends news. Ask whether the important things come by email, in an app, or both, and whether the app can also email you. Then you know where to look.
- Read for the costly four. Closures, early pick-ups, supply asks and forms. Act on them or write them down the same day.
- Put closures and early pick-ups on the calendar right away. They're the costly ones to miss, and the hardest to find again later.
- Keep a running supply list. When the daycare asks for diapers, wipes or a change of clothes, add it with your child's name, so it goes in the bag the next morning.
- Share it. One list both of you can see beats two people each holding half of it.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, does that reading and list-making for you. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. You get one list of what's coming up, which child it's for, and what to bring, sign or pay, like "Ellie: diapers and wipes, Monday". On the iPhone and Android apps, one quiet reminder comes each morning, at a time you pick. Invite a partner and you both see the same list.
Questions parents ask
Our daycare uses Brightwheel. How do I get its messages into Daywell?
Brightwheel messages arrive in the Brightwheel app, and urgent alerts can also come by text, so take a screenshot of the message, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell lists what it asks for.
The daycare sent a sheet home. How do I add it?
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes. From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
How do I get Daywell?
It's in invite-only early access. Join the waitlist on getdaywell.com and we'll send one email when your spot opens. It's free while in early access.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
