How do I keep track of school registration and re-enrolment deadlines?
If your school sends a registration or re-enrolment notice, it may ask for more than one thing: a form, a payment, papers to hand in. When it arrives, even if the date is far off, write down each thing with its date and which child, put the due date on your calendar, and set one reminder a week before.
Connect Gmail, or forward school emails from any inbox to your Daywell address.
What to do
- Search your email once. Type these words into your email's search box: registration, re-enroll, re-enrol, enrollment, intent to return. Open anything from your school or daycare that comes up, and write down any date in it. This can find a notice you already received and skimmed past.
- Write one line per thing, per child. "Maya: re-enrolment form, due [date], online." "Maya: deposit, due [date]." A form and a payment can have different dates, so each gets its own line.
- Write down where and how. For each line, add where you do it: an online link, a paper form to the office, an email reply. A date with no "where" costs ten minutes the night it is due.
- Put the due date on a calendar, with one reminder a week before. A reminder on the day itself leaves no time to find a missing paper. Set it once, on a calendar both parents can see.
- If anything is unclear, ask the office three things. What is the date? What do you need to hand in? What happens if you miss it?
- Keep the confirmation. When you submit, save the confirmation email under one label and mark the line done. In Gmail, make a filter for your school, daycare and activity senders and have it label them "School". Choose Skip the Inbox (Archive it) only if you'll open that label every day.
How Daywell helps
Daywell, the family prep assistant, does that reading and list-making for you. Connect Gmail once, read-only. Daywell looks at email and picks out the messages from school, daycare and activities. You get one list of what's coming up, which child it's for, and what to bring, sign or pay, like "Maya: field trip form, sign by Wednesday". On the iPhone and Android apps, one quiet reminder comes each morning, at a time you pick. Invite a partner and you both see the same list.
Questions parents ask
I never got a notice. How do I find the date?
Ask the school office, and search your email for the words in step 1. If your school does not email, the office is the place to ask.
The notice was a paper form or a PDF. How do I add it?
Take a photo or a screenshot, or save the PDF, then share it to Daywell from your phone, or add it in Daywell on the web. Daywell reads it and lists what it asks for.
Our school does registration in a portal. Can Daywell see it?
It doesn't sign in to school portals or apps. It reads the emails they send. Write the portal's date down yourself.
I use Outlook or another email, not Gmail. Can I still use Daywell?
Yes. From any inbox, forward school emails to your own Daywell address, one at a time or automatically.
Does Daywell read all of my email?
No. It looks only at who each email is from and its subject, and skips what Gmail files under Promotions, Social and Forums. It opens the ones it judges to be from school, daycare or activities. If it can't tell from the sender and subject, it opens that one too rather than risk missing it. The privacy policy explains what is kept and for how long.
How do I get Daywell?
It's in invite-only early access. Join the waitlist on getdaywell.com and we'll send one email when your spot opens. It's free while in early access.
